I upped him in Grammar...what do I do now for PHFHG?

We are currently working in BHFHG with my 3rd grader. I initally started out the year with R&S 2 for his grammar, but he started complaining that it was too easy and that he wasn't learning anything. So I bumped him up into the R&S 3. He doesn't like grammar in general, so it isn't his fav anyway. There doesn't seem to be a struggle with his understanding the lessons, and he is going through the material smoothly.

I do know that at some point the R&S grammar starts getting lots more challenging, and I'm wondering what I should do when we move up into Preparing. As he voices some complaint already about a subject that isn't his favorite, I surely do not want to put him in too deep with R&S 4 not knowing how it progresses. He is being challenged now as it is, and I am not sure if I've jumped the gun by advancing him before the guides actually did out of ignorance. HELP! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Kimi! Why not go to doing R & S 3 half-speed right now? I bet he'd like that. You could just do it every other day and continue with that next year. I agree, I wouldn't rush to get to R & S 4 - it's a big book! :)

In Christ,
Julie

Kimi,

I agree that doing Rod and Staff 3 at half-speed is a great idea. :D Otherwise, if you did want to continue doing 3 at full-speed, I would definitely switch toward doing Rod and Staff 4 at half-speed the following year (either doing half a lesson 4 times a week or a whole lesson twice a week). :D
Blessings,
Carrie

Julie and Carrie- Thank you for your timely advice and suggestions. I decided to do R & S 3 at half-speed for the remainder of the year, and we will probably continue to do a slower pace next year with R&S 4 as well. My son was very happy with the change.
