Rod & Staff vs. CLE LA

We recently began using CLE LA before we started with HOD. I think I have heard that the two are similar, but I'm not sure. Can someone give me insight/a comparison between the two? If R & S is truly better, then I would consider switching, however switching in itself can be detrimental and I want to avoid it if there isn't a significant difference... My poor children are scarred from switching...
Thanks!
Monique

I have reviewed CLE 3 and thought it looked really strong. I would say R & S 3 is more concise and is (obviously) non-consumable. It's shorter to get through each day. Also, handwriting is not included in R & S which was an upside for us because we really liked our handwriting book but something to consider. I imagine they are fairly similar in Scope & Sequence. If you like it I would be inclined to stick with what works! I think you are wise to avoid a lot of switching. I regret those moments of fear and the needless switching I've done in the past.

In addition, R&S is mastery and CLE is spiral. Both are good programs. It's whatever works best for your child.

I did CLE last year for year 1, and now am using R&S Gr 2 for LA (with Bigger). I am enjoying the R&S one better (which suprised me!) but we are skipping a lot - there seems to be a lot of irrelevent material and a lot of going over the same old stuff. However, when we used CLE, I skipped HEAPS and it was worse than R&S. I have considered changing R&S to Queen LL, but I think R&S will be ok for us, as long as I skip what we need to. ATM, we are using about 1/4 of the lesson, and skipping every two or so lessons.

I haven't used both, but I here's a link to why we enjoy R & S, in case that's of some use:

Monique,
This past discussion may be of some help to you. If you don't have time to read the whole thread, you may want to read my two responses on the thread in order to get a feel for why we recommend what we do for English instruction. Link:

It may help as you ponder. Just a thought.
