CTC with extensions

Hi there,

We are planning to use the Extensions in CTC with our soon to be 13 yo son, I'm wondering if in light of that we should "drop" other portions of the daily lesson plan, like the Independent History?

Also, I know it' is on this board somewhere, but I can't seem to locate the breakdown of how long it should take to do each subject area in CTC.

Thanks.

I have my 12 year old in 7th reading the extension and we did not need to drop anything. She's really enjoying it. :D I think the full program is really doable for a 13 year old. I do not have a break down of the boxes. I know that the read aloud portion is less than Preparing and that my dd finishes the same time as everyone does. We added higher level science for her because that is her interest and that is working well for her. My other kids will do the program as written for 6th grade and I will have them read the extension as well. But I am the type that likes to get as much as possible.

w2w,

So, do you do a separate storytime with her, using the recommendations from CTC or do you do a storytime with everyone? ARe you doing the higher level science in addition to CTC science or in lieu of?

My oldest ds 12 is doing CTC this year, with the extensions. We are not doing the story time read alouds, but I do plan to do them when my dd 10 gets to CTC sometime next fall instead of the extension reading. She'll be 5th grade instead of 6th and I don't think she'll be ready for the extension pack yet. It usually takes my son about 4 hours to complete everything, depending on how much he dawdles with his math.  If we get started early enough we can finish by 12 or 12:30 but usually it is closer to 1:30 or 2 o'clock.

I actually have her listening on the read alouds in Preparing. :D She skipped Preparing so I have he listen in to still get the information but she does not do any of the projects in Preparing. Just the read alouds she joins in on with the other kids. She is the only one doing CTC this year, my next three will do it next year. I substituted out CTC science because she is pretty adamant about going into something medical, or I should say she wants to be a pediatrician and I am trying to get her to consider other options. :) Anyway we went with something applicable to that. I have her doing Apologia Biology. It is supposed to be 9th grade but to me it seems a little weak for that to me but I love the way it is written so instead we are doing it slowly in 7th and if it goes over to 8th we are fine with that. It was my field though so I am able to help her easily. So far so good on that but we are just seeing how it goes. So she is doing CTC alone and skipping the science (my other kids will do it as written next year). I have her reading the extensions and everything else. She listens in on Preparing read alouds just for information. We all do a Bible reading together and that is our together time. :D

Just wanted to ask again, if anyone recalls where on the board it lists how long each subject area of CTC takes?
