Questions about LHFHG.......

Good morning ladies! I have a couple of questions about LHFHG. We are in in unit 17 and I have just noticed the optional literature supplements in the back of the guide. :? I knew that there were optional lists in the upper guides, but somehow I failed to notice this list in LHFHG. Anyway, I would really like to start using these. I was just wondering when you schedule these into your day? I was thinking about doing them at bedtime. Or do you think that it would be better to do it during school time?

Also, I have been wanting to add in some extras, since we have some time to do so (I am only doing LHFHG with my 6 year old daughter this year). I would like to do safety, nutrition, cooking, and maybe a zoo animal study (before our trip to the zoo in the spring). Do any of you have some book suggestions for me? Also, if you have any other topic that would be good to add in for a 6 year old, please let me know. I just would like some short lessons that are fun to do that won't seem like school work.

Carrie, thank you so much for HOD!!!!! We were at the park the other day with our homeschool group and I was listening to several ladies discussing what they were planning for next year. They were all talking about how it took them from now until the summer to figure out what they were going to do (just piecing things together). I just smiled to myself (feeling kind of guilty  ) that all I had to do was place my order for Beyond in May and pick up some extra basic supplies over the summer. :D HOD has done it all for me! Not only that, but it covers everything that we need and goes so smoothly each day.

I am also so thankful to Julie and all of the other ladies on this board who are SOOO much help to me while we are going through it. When we started homeschooling last fall, I had decided to make a one year commitment and then decide whether or not to do it again next year. Well, we love it, and I can't imagine life any other way. :D

PS. Sorry for the long post, but I have to share this funny. My daughter was in a 1/2 day preschool the year before we started LHFHG. Well, my son is going to be preschool age this fall and when I mentioned to my daughter that I was thinking about sending him to the same preschool this year for fun, she had a fit! Ha! She wants me to keep him at home and do her fun school with him too! So, I guess that I will be ordering Beyond and Little Hands both! :D

Thanks,
Christy :D

I had a hard time finding most of the titles at our libraries but what I did find or substitute with I would read after the Bible lesson. Sometimes I would read the same story from one of our other Bible storybooks. Bedtime would be a great time to review what was talked about in school and it will send them off with what we all need to be sent to bed with, the Word. HTH.

My kids enjoy Lets-Read-and-Find-Out Science books. Many of these are available through our local library. They cover a wide range of topics such as animals, weather, health, etc. Here's an Amazon link for them.

I have also found some great cookbooks for kids by searching our library's website. HTH!

Hi Christy,

We used LHFHG last year and never actually used any of the extra books from the back, I would sometimes supplement with an entry from a children's encyclopedia, but not often. I can't really help you with that, but you can find a Zoo Guide here: http://www.answersingenesis.org/PublicS ... 5,241.aspx

on this same page are a few other guides and adventure books for zoos, aquariums, and museums.

HTH,
Nancy
