I know i will probably confuse you all here since i have been going back and forth between what to use for my 10 year old. She is not a hard worker when it comes to school work and gets very overwhelmed easily-she has some anxiety disorder which she i being treated for. I orginally was going to put her in Preparing, but long story short, i thought that i would sell preparing so all i had left was bigger and CTC. So i decided to go with the CTC because it was in my house. Anyways, it seems that some are giving the advice to do preparing rather that CTC--we've only done one day of CTC since we had a field trip this week. I don't think she would know the difference content wise if we went back to the preparing. Anyways, according to the placement suggestions, she was right in the meddle---1/2 for CTC and 1/2 for Preparing. So i guess it sounds like the preparing is a better option???!!!!

I vote for Preparing over CTC. My daughter is 11 and is loving it! Are you still going to be doing two programs? I also vote for combining as it sounds like you have a lot going on. You don't want to get overwhelmed. A switch to a great program is only a good thing if you hit correct placement and correct work load for mom. I would take a little time deciding on placement. It makes a world of difference.

I think you are wise to give this a lot of thought, and I agree with 8arrows - proper placement is a big deal, so good for you to ponder it carefully. I still think PHFHG would be the better placement, for the reasons I mentioned in our earlier posts about it. One other reason I'd choose PHFHG for your dd is she's be able to be more independent with it. I know, CTC is written to be more independent, but it is not as independent as PHFHG if a child can't truly do all of what's supposed to be done independent independently. You'd mentioned you've had some health concerns in a previous post. We've had some of those times around here too, and it is so important that a guide at that point can be picked up by a child and used quite independently. Since you'll be training your dd to use the guide, I think that I'd do PHFHG with her as it is a less rigorous program than CTC, which will give her time to learn how to use it and prepare for CTC the next year, and also allow her to move forward more on her own should health concerns arise. I really do think she'd thrive in PHFHG. It's an excellent program, and a wonderful review of history before starting in with the Ancients. Praying for you as you ponder this.

It does sound like you are really giving this a lot of thought and I applaud you for that! For what it is worth I am currently using Preparing with ds 13, ds 12 and ds 8. We LOVE it. Ds 12 & 13 are thriving and learning and maturing. For ds 8 - loves it too, but I need to tweak it down and cut out a lot of work for him! You are just going to love Preparing! It's been a huge blessing not only to my children, but to me! Preparing is just what we needed this year to bond together as a family as we learn together and discover God's hand throughout the ages of history!
