ancients? My dd is interested in doing ancients. Egypt, pyramids, temples, etc. She picked up the Usborne Ancient World book and loves it.
She's 9 so would Preparing cover this interest? And to what extent?

My son who is 10 is doing Preparing this year. It is an overview of world history starting with creation. It does cover Ancient Egypt for I think 2 weeks. They research things like the Rosetta stone, make a cartouche and a pyramid. They read a great book called The 5,000 year old puzzle about searching for a sarcophagus inside of a pyramid. At the same time you are doing a read aloud called Tirzah that covers the Jewish people at the time of the Exodus out of Egypt. What is unique to any HOD program is that the bible history is completely intertwined with what could be considered secular history. Things like worshiping of other Gods and temples are mentioned, but not emphasized. Carrie is very careful with that. I do feel like Preparing does spend quite a bit of time in Ancient History. We are on week 18 of Preparing and are up to the Roman Empire and the birth of Christ. I hope that answers some of your questions.

Yes, this is what I'm looking for to see exactly how deep the ancient history goes and some of the activities there are. The activities will tell me if there's enough excitement on her part.

DD has zero interest in almost everything school and she told me she wanted to study the ancient world...egypt, mostly likely all the fun stuff, hyeiroglyphics (I don't want to spell check this), pyramids, etc. So I just may switch from Am History to this, halving the year, but we did Am History last year too. But she can't get too deep, since most of what I find is way over her cute little academic brain. I want to know that if we did PHFHG that this would be enough without it being too little in the interest dept. or too much in the academic dept. She fits placement wise, it's more subject that I'm looking at. She loves bible stories so for me it really would have to be with a biblical focus. While SOTW looks engaging, I just hear that it lacks in that Christian focus everywhere I read.
