What unit are you on for LHFHG?

I'm just wondering what unit most of you are on who use LHFHG? We just started unit 13 and I feel a bit behind. I've taken a fairly laid back K approach though. I guess I'm just wondering where other people are and did others do a slowish approach to K?

We are also on Unit 13, Day 3. We started the end of August and should technically be on Unit 21. This used to stress me out but when I thought about how we wanted home school and decided to do it year long...well that makes us right in track.

Good morning! We are in unit 16 this week. I wouldn't worry about where you are in the guide. There are 34 units in LHFHG and I would guess that you could find someone on every one of those units at this time

. Some start a guide in the fall, some start in January, and some just start when they get finished with the one they are working on. This is my first year homeschooling and I have let the thought of being behind worry me too. I had planned on taking 2 full weeks off at Christmas. Well, we took more days than I wanted to around Thanksgiving so I decided to work up until Dec 23rd and then just take a week off because I felt a little behind. We got it done, but now I wish that we had taken the full 2 weeks.
In the beginning, I was going to do school 4 days a week and just school year around. Well, things would come up (you know, kiddos sick, pretty days that we wanted to get out, etc) and we didn't get as much school done as I wanted. So, I decided that we would plan to do school 5 days a week and take days when we wanted or needed them. That is working much better for us.
I think that I just need to get out of the mindset that I have to keep the public school schedule. That is supposed to be one of the advantages of homeschooling, being able to make our on schedule. I am working really hard to get out of that mindset. It's a struggle sometimes, but the ladies on this board are so encouraging and give a lot of great advice! We live in Texas, so we have long hot summers. I would honestly rather be doing school during that time, and then taking days off in the fall and spring when the weather is gorgeous. I probably need to plan around that next year. We live and learn!
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted you to know that you aren't the only one who has worried about this at one time or another.

We started last May and are finishing unit 21 today. We went half-speed for awhile and now we do it full-speed. We aim for 5 days a week and then take days off when things come up, at this point. I think we even did 3 days/week over Christmas/New Year's. It's good to have that structure available for my ds, and it's too hot to do anything but swim outside from May-September, so it was nice to have that structure for part of the day. We're also having a baby in the next month, and who knows what that will do to our schedule, and for how long

. I think that'll have us finishing around June...we'll probably just start into Beyond slowly soon after that.

We aren't doing LHFHG right now, but I have done it with our 2 older dc years past. We took 1 year to go through it with my oldest, and a little shy of 2 years to go through it with our middle ds. Both worked fine, and it was nice to be able to easily do different pacing with each of them, since they had different needs. I would just go at a pace that seems to fit your child well, and get to Beyond sometime around your child's first or second grade year.

We just started unit 15 today. We are a couple weeks ahead in math though. We do math and reading 4-5 times a week and everything else 3-4 times a week. We will be taking a couple weeks off when the new baby comes as well. I want to finish K math by the fall, but I would like to stretch of the rest of the guide to take longer. Of course we will take at least a month or two break in the summer, BUT we will continue with math into the summer if we have some left. My dd was just shy of turning 5 when we started, and I do not want her to always be on the young end of every guide when we start it. I would ideally like my dd to be 8 (or at least close to

when we start Bigger, so I figure we can take our time a bit.

We just finished up day 3 of unit 15 today - and we started at the beginning of September. We are ahead in math (I think around unit 19) because ds moved through the beginning of 2A a little more quickly than was scheduled. We pretty much try to stay on the ps schedule as far as what days we do school - only because dh is a teacher and it works best for us. Trying to do school when daddy is home to play with is a little more difficult.

Well, we just finished Unit 1 today. Does that make you feel better about being behind?
We started on January 4th, but we are only doing most things 3 days a week for now. We do math, phonics, and handwriting practice daily.

We are in Unit 18 of LHFHG. I also struggle with the thinking I HAVE to be on the ps schedule as we have a ps teacher that lives across the road from us that has voiced her disapproval of my homeschooling my dc on more than a few occasions.

I feel like we are doing something wrong if we play outside too long. I am working on this though.

We are in Unit 15 day 2. i feel we are right on schedule for where WE want to be

We are using it for Kindergarten with Emerging Reader and higher level of math. We also did get ahead in story-tme and we have only two more stories to go. we will do our own after that because i want to save the Beyond ones for next year.
we weren't doing the History side for a while and have started it back up after Christmas.

My son completed day 3 of
Unit 16 today.
We're only one unit behind my original schedule for the year. Not too bad for our first year of homeschooling either.

Since I'm a certified teacher and taught prior to having my kids - we stick to the school year for routine. It's also nice because my son's friends all attend ps/private school so he'll be done with school when they're done with their school year. We're hoping to be done with LHFHG by the first week of June.

We just finished unit 16 today. I *really* want to finish by mid-June and I think we're on track to do that. Yes, I'm a bit uptight about following the public school schedule, but that's mostly because dh is a ps teacher and like to school according to his schedule.
