I am homeschooling my 3rd grade 8yr old right now with Bigger. I have decided to bring my 4th grade 9yr old home from school next week. I am planning on just putting her in with my 8yr old with some adjustments for math and grammar. Do I need to do the extensions for my 9yr with this program? Im not sure if I should let her adjust to being home and not do them or if her age requires them. What age is the extension geared for? Sorry Im rambling :?

Hi Krysti, and welcome to the HOD board! I am excited for you to bring your dd home, though I am sure there will be an adjustment period, I think you'll find it to be a good decision with time. How great for you that you are already doing BHFHG and can just blend your other dd right in with that. :) BHFHG has a target age range of 7-9, with extensions for 10-11 yo's. If I were you, I'd hold off on the extensions for now. She's quite young for them anyway. You can always get them later and do them for the end portion if you want, but for now, I'd just focus on establishing a new "normal" as you bring your other precious child home. I would consider having different books for her for DITHOR, as this will be an easy way to challenge her in the area of reading and have books that fit her age and interests well as compared to the other books that would fit your ds's age and interests. :D HTH!

In Christ,
Julie

We are currently using Bigger with our 4th grader- he loves it even though we don't use the extensions. Bigger feels very full for us at this time with out the extensions. How perfect that it works for you to bring your dd right along with what you are already doing. That's great! Praying for your adjustment time in adding another to your hs!

krysti,

You should be fine combining within Bigger Hearts, just adding higher level options for the 3R's. The target age range for Bigger Hearts is ages 7-9 with extensions for 10-11 year olds, so you shouldn't need the Extension Pack for your 9 year old unless you desire to add it in. :D You could start with Bigger as is, and then add it later if you feel it's needed. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you everyone for all of your help. My 9 yr old will start Monday and I will wait for extensions until I see how it goes. :D

Have a wonderful time with BHFHG, Krysti! Thanks for letting us know your decision, and enjoy it - it's a great way to study American history! :D

Julie

Just wanted to say that we are loving Bigger with 3rd and 4th graders! We, too, started with our 3rd grader and then brought the 4th grader home from Christian School after trying that out for a semester and missing homeschooling her :) .
We are not doing full extensions, but have the historical fiction selections on hand for oldest to read.
Enjoy!!!
