Preparing or CTC, Christmas, and Egyptians

Since both of these curriculums cover the Egyptians, I just had to share my Christmas idea. My middle boys love Playmobils, and the new ones out are Egyptians. We bought a warrior set and a chariot set, one for each boy, but the pyramid was near $100 (gasp), so I made them one for Christmas. I doubled Carrie's air-dry clay mix from the beginning of the CTC manual and used it to build a clay pryamid over an upside down plastic container (They Glad disposable kind.) I cut brick shapes in it and will "gild" the top with yellow play-doh. We are setting it on sandpaper over wood. I even carved Khufu's name in the bottom. The reason I built it over a container was so my daughter could build a sarcophogus that would fit "inside " the pyramid (actually under). My older boys are reading a high school text about the time line of the pyramids so I have been really into this anyway. I also read the Boy and the Pyramid from HOD to Elaine earlier this year, and then we will be getting to the Egyptians in Preparing. I just wanted to share in case anyone else was feeling crafty this Christmas (and it was close to free!).

That's AWESOME! My kids really loved the looks of that Egyptian Playmobil stuff.

Awesome idea!
I would love to start collecting Playmobil stuff for my kiddos, probably when they are a bit older as it is a little pricey. It is all so cool though, and so great for going with school!

What fun - can you be my mom for a day please! Your dc are going to love this. It's so neat that they'll be playing with history, and have learned what those playthings really mean through the passage of time. Thanks for letting others know about this great idea!

What a terrific idea! We bought some of the Egyptian Playmobil too for our fifth grader who's doing CTC this year. His upcoming birthday is in February. They were 30% off at Toys R' Us before Christmas here.
