About to finish LHTH... next steps?

Hi Ladies,
My daughter will be 4 in March and we're just about to finish LHTH. We had a lot of fun with the curriculum and I'm amazed at how much she's retained in History and Bible.

I really like HOD and I want to stick with it. My question is where to go next. Should I start LHFHG half speed? She knows her letters and sounds and has an amazing attention span. She has no trouble listening to chapter books for large chunks of time and I feel like she's ready to learn how to read. However, we often have obedience issues that could partially be related to maturity (perfectionist tendencies... wanting to do things her way). Or maybe that's just her heart and things will be the same in a year and a half and I just need to be faithful to work through those heart issues with her.

Or should I try another company's K (that seems gentler and more pre-schooly to me) and then jump back to LHFHG after that when she's 5?

I'd love any thoughts. :)

Thanks ladies,
Catherine

Well, I've been in this same situation and have found that if a child did well with the HOD guide he/she just finished, he/she will be adequately prepared for the next one, at half-speed for sure. I would do LHFHG with the K options half-speed, only do phonics daily. You can then see how it's going, and do Beyond at half-speed after that too, or 4 days a week - the options are endless with HOD. :D We did LHFHG half-speed with my 4 yo for quite awhile. Then, we bumped him up to full-speed the last couple months of it. We then started Beyond half-speed for a bit, but then went to full-speed - but only 4 days a week - because he was ready for it. This year, we'll be finishing Beyond and starting Bigger half-speed until the end of this year, and then start next year full-speed 4 days a week. I tell you this not because I think you'll want this same schedule, but just to let you know that HOD is that flexible. My ds has flourished with this, and I love that I have the option to go half-speed, school however many days a week I want, or go full-speed at any point. You have that same flexibility too - and I think your dd is ready for LHFHG half-speed! :D It's an awesome program - enjoy! HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie
