Ladies,
I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions for book substitutes in PHFHG. We have read The Door in the Wall and The Family Under the Bridge (both wonderful books) in recent years. Does anyone know of some good books to use instead? We will not be doing PHFHG until next fall, but I like to look for bargain books when I can. I may also try to get a few books for Christmas.

Blessings,
Cindy

If you are not using the extension package than - Adam of the Road
Here's a few more ideas:
Castle Diary The Journal of Tobias Burgess by Rochard Platt
Castle & Cathedral by David Macaulay
Matilda Bone by Karen S
Crispin by Avi
The Making of a Knight by OBrien
Black Horse for the King McCoffrey
Medieval Feast by Aliki
Robin Hood
Saint George and the Dragon
John Calvin by Carr
Joan of Arc by Diane Stanley
Michelangelo by Diane Stanley
Leonardo: Beautiful Dream by Byrd

For fun look for the Kingdom Series on audio by Chuck Black

Have fun!

juliekay,
I really apprecaite your list of several good choices. I see your doing PHFHG right now. Very fun! :D I do have Castle Diary and Adam of the Road. We have not read those, so I will think about choosing one of them. Any suggestions for The Family Under the Bridge?

Blessings,
Cindy

This story is a little harder to "substitute" as it represents an ideology vs. a time period.
IF you are looking for a story about orphans maybe The George Mueller story....
IF you are looking for a story of reaching out and making new friends maybe Kildee House by Montgomery...
Maybe try The Clown of God by dePaola because it will fit in the time period and it's about an orphan...??

On a sidenote, you may wish to wait to do Black Horses for the King or the McSpaddon version of Robin Hood, as both of these books will part of the Extension Pack in the new Resurrection to Reformation guide. If you won't be doing the Extension Pack in RTR then that isn't a problem. Just thought that may help a bit when weighing options. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
