My son is a writer too!!!

I am so excited about what Write with the Best is doing for my ds's writing! I love to write myself, so it has always been hard that my oldest ds has not seemed to take much of an interest in it. Last year, with PHFHG's poetry lessons, he began to bloom - and this year in CTC, he is practically bursting with creative writing ideas!
He's even inspired me to begin writing again, and we are both loving reading our stories to one another. Anyway, here's his latest descriptive paragraph from Write with the Best. He had to describe a place, and he chose to describe our backyard, which I thought could be quite difficult to make very interesting.
However, I'm so happy with the results...
The shining green carpet of grass had been surprisingly attacked by different skin-colored tribes of leaves. Burnt Umber, Sunny Yellow, Rain Day Orange, and Brownish Red all did their best to ruin the grasses' handsome day. The grass fought off the first attack and enlisted all of their grass blade men. The leaves had so many more leaf men and kept enlisting more soldiers that plummeted down from their strongholds, joining the attack. Then the reinforcements for the leaves hit. Out the bluejays strutted from their evergreen pyramid. With their blue shawls and their white vests and black buttons, the bluejays looked beautiful beside the tribes pecking viciously. Halfway through the combat, the birds lay down for 10 minutes, squawking at any thing disturbing their afternoon nap. The enormous geese got tired seeing the fight. They quickly took off to visit their cousins down south. Just as the grass started turning yellow from exhaustion, the leaves withered away and the grass lived to fight another season.
I just wanted to share my joy with all my fellow HOD ladies, and also encourage you that if you have a child who doesn't seem to like to write creatively, I think doing PHFHG and CTC will get that ball rolling in the right direction.
In Christ,
Julie
