Post by MamaBear23Cubs » Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:40 am

We are visting family right now and don't have our regular school books and DD9 would like to make the Egytian bread. I don't remember the name of the it. It's near after the first few units and under history projects. Could someone please give me the reciepe that is in the guide? Thanks

Found it! And I am so glad you asked because somehow we missed doing that so we may try it now. It was Unit 6 Day 3.

In a bowl mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp baking powder. Next, cut 4 Tbls butter and add to the mixture. Rub the butter into the mixture with your fingers until it feels like fine crumbs. Add 1/2 cup honey and 3 Tbls milk. Stir until dough forms. Place the dough on a floured surface. Divide the dough into 3 parts. Then coil each strip into a spiral to make 3 seperate pastries. Place each pastry on a greased baking sheet. Use honey to glaze the tops of the pastries. Then sprinkle with caraway seeds. Bake the pastries for 355 for 20 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

Just don't make the same mistake I did...

Use a cookie sheet with a rim all the way around so the honey doesn't run off and burn on the bottom of your oven!! Our Egyptian Bread craft turned into a lesson in fire safety as smoke filled our kitchen!!

We made these last year when we did PHFHG, and my ds has made these 3 times now. He continues to love them, and they are easy enough for him to make on his own. All 3 of our little guys enjoy them!

Have fun with that!
