The Adventures of Peter Cottontail. While I was reading, we came upon the character Jimmy Skunk. My dd, Froggy was like,"hey, it's the same one from the other book!!!". She found it very funny to see the characters come back from Reddy Fox. I am glad that she's now interested in these books, unlike last year. I even started liking Reddy Fox and wanting to know what would happen next.
Just wanted to share with you all...have a good night :)

My son loved these so much. We read them aloud and then six months later he went back and reread them all on his own!! Love that.

Juli I am so glad you are enjoying these. :D We had so much fun with the trouble they got into. My girls are actually using these books to practice reading on their own now. We had so much fun guessing what kind of trouble they would get into next. I think they are kind of special books. It's one of those making memories times. Glad you guys are making some sweet ones. :D

My son said the same thing when we began Peter Cottontail a few weeks ago. He always begs for more than just one chapter each school day - which I don't allow, even though I really want to read ahead for myself. Yesterday when we read a chapter my dd3 was listening in and answered one of my son's comprehension questions before he could answer. She knew that one character wasn't doing right. I love what they're learning! :D

I think that having the same characters helps with beginning reading comprehension so much. Not to mention, they are just the cutest books! I'm glad your dd remembered the characters and is making good connections like that. We now own almost all of the Thorton Burgess books, and our kids are reading them on their own for fun now. They are excellent! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Mine are exactly the same way, and I won't read ahead either. But I did find some other Burgess books, the Mother West Wind books (there are 3, I think, and all have Mother West Wind in the title). Each chapter is a self contained story about the same characters, so I appease them with that. :D
