Loving LHFHG!

I just switched my daughter to LHFHG last week and she LOVES it! We were using separate reading/math/handwriting programs and we just weren't having fun. She would cry and complain when it was time for school each day. Now she begs to do school! We especially love the activities to reinforce concepts (flashlights in the closet, earth around the sun, air v land animals). These are so simple to do but make such a difference in my daughter's enjoyment of learning. I love that I can just open the book and go with no planning on my part. I love that I can choose my own phonics program and just do the next thing. This has simplified our homeschool tremendously and we have finally found our homeschooling groove!

We chose to go with Singapore math, and I will say that it starts out VERY slowly. I don't want to skip ahead and complicate things by being on separate pages, so we are mostly playing math games for now. She is reading and adding/subtracting but we are very happy with LHFHG. Rather than pushing her academically, my main goals for this year were to 1)Establish a love of learning 2)Set a solid foundation 3)To have fun and nurture our relationship. LHFHG fits the bill!

Thank you thank you thank you!

I'm so glad you are having fun in your homeschool! We have had the same experience for LHFHG. I bought it last spring to use this fall, but after looking at it, we scrapped what we were doing and got started last spring. It was the best decision I ever made. School is SUPPOSED to be fun at this age!!

I just realized that I may have made it sound like she is not being pushed academically  .I was trying to convey that I love the innocence and God-centeredness of the program and didn't feel the need to skip to the next level, even though she could probably handle it academically. I love that we found LHFHG for kindergarten (albeit late  )and that she is getting a solid foundation from the beginning--and having fun doing it!

It sounds like you are having an awesome year with LHFHG! :D Wouldn't it have been fun for us to have been taught this way? When I think of all of those years I spent sitting in a desk, it makes me sad. I'm glad our dc can truly learn to love school! :) I'm so glad you are enjoying LHFHG. :)

In Christ,
Julie

How wonderful! Isn't it great when you actually look forward to school! We loved LHFHG last year. This year my bigger kids are reading the books on their own because they feel deprived for having missed it. So glad you year is going so well!

We have been having a fabulous time with LHFHG as well!!! :-) I love that it is so gentle, but still packed with great learning. The little activities really do seem to cement the "history lesson" quite well. At first I was worried that maybe Singapore Math was too light, but I have since done more and more research on learning math in general, and I am SO GLAD to be doing Singapore Math with my dd, and the additional activities in the guide are PERFECT!!! I could not be happier! :-)

Aussenfay,

I'm so glad that you and your daughter are loving the switch to LHFHG! We pray it will continue to bless your year and draw your little one ever closer to the Lord! :D We finished LHFHG last year and had a wonderful time as well.

I am so encouraged by posts like these are we are wading through so many books to find the most excellent fit for our new guide RTR. :D Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie

So glad it's going well. We are loving it, too! Ds loves the rotating box and most of the rest as well. We just did storytime and Bible study out on the front porch because the weather is beautiful. Ds said, "Mama, I never want to go to school." HOD is fun and sweet and gives us meaningful time together in God's Word every day. Hope the rest of your school year is wonderful!
