Can I brag on my dh..3 HOD programs and still standing!

My dh taught school today to give me a chance to rest and get better from this flu that is hanging onto me. I gave him my schedule for Beyond, Preparing and CTC. He finished all three in the same amount of time that it takes me! Went from 9-2:30 and did all our extras. I have to admit I was wondering how smooth it would go for him but no troubles at all. It just goes to show that if you are hitting them at their proper level doing three HOD programs is very doable. I was worried that even though we did HOD last year that adding another program might tip the scales, had a little back up plan with two programs just in case. It really has gone very well. :D And I have to admit my lazy habits have not changed this year. I still do not look ahead and just sort of spin the wheel to see it we have everything on the day of our school as we go. So far it's has it has been, experiments are easy to get done and projects are with stuff I have on hand. I think at this point being prepared might actually ruin our groove, hahaha! So we just go with it and find out the day of what is needed.

What a blessing HOD is that I could just hand it to someone with my schedule and they could actually pull it off just as well as I can. Dh said doing three was a little bit harder but not a lot harder. It definitely does not feel like an extra program for some reason. But for anyone else considering three programs because of where they fall it really seems to work well. I did have the knowing how HOD works under my belt and so does my dh really because he has taught school for us before last year. But really it is seeming pretty easy to get done and we are loving it. My kids are actually more excited this year than they were last year if that is possible. My only problem is my middle kids have two ways to be jealous of other activities becasue they see Beyond (which they never did) and CTC (which they will do next year). And my son is constantly asking if he can do the stuff in CTC as well and sometimes Beyond activities. And the older kids are all reading the books in Beyond. That is not a problem but it is just funny I think if I told them they had to do it then they would not be so eager but having it sort of be like sneaking someone else's program adds to the intrigue. Funny how that works.

Anyway more of a brag on HOD than dh but he did do a good job today. :D And I was excited to see that doing three programs worked well for him as well so I thought I would share.

Water2Wine,

I hope that flu bug decides to leave town soon so you can get better! Sorry you aren't feeling well, being healthy is so important.
I loved reading your post and hearing the great ease of use with the programs, especially three of them, yowza!!!!
You are an inspiration, as is your husband!
I am exactly the same way when it comes to preparing for the day. I am such a "fly by the seat of your pants gal". I just find it actually works best for me. I can see all the "Olives" cringing at that!
I loved hearing about how your kids are "sneaking eachother's programs, too funny!
Thanks for a peek into your day and a laugh as well!

That IS a great testimony for using HOD, w2w!! :D I'll have to let my hubby know that he can sub sometime  ...and I'll just let him read your experience as PROOF that he can do it! I'm sorry that you're feeling sick though. That is no fun! :| So, get better soon!

I have to tell you that I breathed a sigh of relief when you said that you went with the NO-advance-planning stategy again. I was kinda thinking that maybe I was the only slacker left when I had read about your looking ahead plans. Hey, Carrie writes it so that it works that way...and I love it!! :D (So, I'm quite sure that the "fly by the seat of my pants" plan will be what I always go with.) And, Candice, I happen to fit in the Olive category. (Obviously I must not be too hard core though.)

Kathleen I am so glad to hear that you are a fellow slacker. It just ruins the fun for me to read ahead and plan. I like to be surprised and just know it will work. My kids tend to peak ahead sometimes but I am fine with just finding out as we go. I like to be entertained and see where it takes us. Or perhaps I could be a tad lazy  but it works so I just don't find the need to plan ahead. I trust Carrie put it together in a way that there will be something in my house that will make the experiment or project work. I am glad to hear I am not alone. To me that is the beauty of it. Carrie does it all for me and all I have to do is just show up.

Yeah another fellow slacker. All my favorite people are fly by the seat of their pants kind of gals. That is great. :D It goes to show what a great job Carrie does that we can just relax and enjoy our kids!

water2wine,

I am so proud of your hubby! My hubby has eased in through the years to being able to sub for me when needed too! :D He started out only subbing for LHTH and has now moved to being able to sub in almost all areas, once we have our schedule flowing smoothly.

I must admit that I also do not look ahead at each day's plans, but just pick up the guides and teach. The kiddos peek at the directions in the guide and get the supplies together, and I sail in and help or teach as directed. :D For my little ones, I just gather anything needed right as I'm teaching. :D

It works for us! I'm so glad it's working for you too! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
