After some time away, I'm back!

Post by momofone » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:25 pm

I almost had a change of heart, but I don't see us leaving HOD anytime soon!
I have lots of "influences" about me concerning total textbooks, but after taking another look at a complete boxed curriculum, I don't want to go back.
HOD is much too simplistic, enriching and not "too much" of everything.

We've had a brief "vacation" from the program due to sickness, and other problems, but now I've got it figured out. We will use Beyond for the left side and use Bigger for the right side. I've also decided to just go ahead with the science in Bigger (at a slow pace). That would be much easier on me than beefing up Beyond.
I really think that having these boxes will organize us and eliminate soooo many of the frustrations over curriculum choices and methods. I need something simple, yet effective. :D
Sorry to ramble! Just had to vent.

It's nice to have a decision made, and even nicer, in my opinion, to choose HOD!

Thanks Imercon! However, I went back and read some of my old posts with help/info about the science. We really should just do the science in Beyond with all the ideas that everyone has given us. I know you all think that I'm crazy by now, LOL!
I am going on a "real" vacation in a couple of weeks! Maybe, that will clear my head. I have needed a break for so long!

Since we've had such a hard time finding our "fit", I think less is actually going to be better for this year. We have changed around with curriculum too much in the 2 and a half years that we've been homeschooling.
Thanks for letting me vent!

Tina,

You are not alone in trying to figure out placement. I was going crazy last summer trying to come up with a plan. Luckily we had a vacation scheduled late August, and that gave me time away from the computer and a chance to clear my head.

What I learned was that I couldn't "plan" because what I worked out on paper didn't match my children's abilities. I recently ended up seperating my children and it's been such a relief to have them placed where they should be.

Good luck, and enjoy your vacation!

Joy

momofone,

Welcome back! :D Enjoy the simple and effective method!

Candice :D

Just to add: I have had my fair share of "this and that", "looking here and there" so, I can totally relate! I like to chalk it up to being a new and confused newbie!
