Question on "Stories of the Pilgrims"

Hi everyone! I'm Cris... I have lurked here off and on over the past couple years. We are currently considering whether to pull my son from school and homeschool him.

We would place him in Beyond.... he is a first grader who does second grade math and reads at a third grade level!! I think he'd most enjoy the activities and topics in this package. I have a question about one of the books, Stories of the Pilgrims.

I went out and read a couple reviews of this book online, just to get more information on it... a couple comments have mentioned that the edition used in this package is a reprint and much has been changed from the original version. (Review here: http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/ ... iew=covers )

I just wondered whether anyone has any information on that, or what your take on this book is?? Thanks!! :)

Cris

Hi Cris! We've actually used both versions of this book. The older version we used years back when we did Beyond with our oldest ds, and we're halfway through Beyond using the newer version now with my second ds. I didn't think they were all that different, and we enjoyed them both. The stories are captivating, and do a wonderful job of helping my ds imagine what life was like back then. :)

In Christ,
Julie

Okay, Julie... I appreciate your feedback. I wondered if they could possibly be that different. I'll take the review with a grain of salt.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Hi,
We're doing Beyond, with a 2nd grader and 1st grader. They are loving the Stories of the Pilgrims, and often want me to keep reading! But I stop, so we'll stay on schedule! So just FYI, I bet he'd love it!
Also, my DD is 2nd grade, doing 2nd grade math and probably reads on a 5th grade level, spells on a 5th grade level. My son is 1st grade, and is pretty much on grade level for most, maybe a little behind in handwriting/copywork. You can easily adjust such areas as needed for your child in this program. But again, they just LOVE Stories of the Pilgrims.

I don't know if that helps, but it's a big hit in our house!
