Question About Etching...In Bigger

Hi,
We tried out the Art Activity today for BHFHG of Unit 2, Day 3. When we followed the instructions which say to etch an outline of a fish on wax paper then It should appear on the white construction paper...and for us it was a very vague outline that showed up on the construction paper. When we painted with water colours overtop the fish, it the fish didn't show up...

Maybe we did something wrong?

Thanks,
Shannon

Hmmm, I wonder if you used the wrong side of the waxed paper? Ours was very faint too, but it did show up after the watercolors were applied. I read a tip on this board awhile back that suggested using a white crayon instead of the waxed paper. Maybe that would work better? My dd, especially, really enjoyed learning this technique and is already planning on some fall scenes she could do this way. We will definitely try the crayon next time, though! :)

Mmm... maybe they weren't "watercolours". I had an old palette of colours but maybe they were tempra? Would that make a difference?
Maybe I'll try the white crayon. Thanks!
