How do you find time to take pics...

Post by kayben » Fri Sep 25, 2009 7:52 am

and then upload them, and post them, and explain them...

I would love to document the schooling. I am just trying to get through the material..lol!! I saw all of your lovely blogs and posts on the weekly check in before we started schooling and couldn't wait to take part. Now, I am just posting for the first time in 5 weeks and definitely not with pics... I do miss seeing all that you are doing. I am still here. And we are making progress. Slowly, but progress nonetheless. We are in our 5th week of school. We are on week three of CTC, BHFHG, and LHTH and day 17 of MFW 1st. My goal is to get through at least two boxes and Math/LA each day. So far, we are doing ok and I am moving into more of a routine. Keeping the little ones busy is a chore. But we have lots of ideas... they just don't always want to comply! I wish I could keep that calm voice and not use my old teacher voice when the kids get distracted and wander away.... But it's a learning process.
Hope everyone is loving this time with their kiddos. Knowing that each day with them is a blessing. (I remind myself of this several times a day  )

1. For experiments and activities, I always keep the camera out & ready to go. I know that isn't very sensible with little ones about but mine are a bit older.

2. For written work, I just lay it out on Thursday after school and snap some quick pix.

I'm highly motivated though. We have no family in-state. We communicate almost exclusively through blogs, facebook, and emails with grandparents, cousins, aunts/uncles, etc. They'd string me up if I didn't post anything. LOL. I didn't post the last 2 weeks or so about our schooling and I was getting the 3rd degree. :-)

I got pictures taken one week so far, and that's been it.

It's pretty random/hit or miss as to whether I'll get some taken or not... more likely not...

I sure do like to look at other people's though, and I'll try to get them taken again sometime...

So.. I think leaving my camera out and accessible will help. I have really enjoyed all of the science projects etc. and feel bad when they just get washed away etc. and I have not taken pictures.... Ok. Next week.... I also need to prove to everyone that more than chaos happens around here!! lol

I leave my camera out and have it charged too. I try to take a picture of a project or experiment because those are the things that are hard to show in a 3 ring binder. I also have made it a goal to post at least one picture of each child doing something HOD on the weekly check-in each week. Sometimes that means I'm snapping a picture of them both on Friday, but it does keep me doing it on a weekly basis. I still need to do our first week's check-in though - my dh took the dc fishing on Friday and took the camera. So, I'm letting myself off the "hook" (ha, ha, couldn't resist this little pun). Maybe just snapping a picture of each child on a certain day of the week each week would work? Like - Every Monday is picture day, or something. I don't think we need to feel guilty about this though. When it's all said and done, whether we have pictures or not, we'll have been here teaching our dc every day, spending our time with them every day, and that's what they'll remember in the end.

I know what you mean! My blog has been practically ignored since our littlest arrived at the end of June :D If it makes you feel any better, I think it's a bit trickier for those of us with a big houseful of kiddos to keep up on photos and whatnot- there are just so many hours in a day, you know! Congrats on your new addition arriving in February- how exciting!!!

Occasionally I will remember during an experiment or something "big." Otherwise, my secret is to take pictures at the end of the week, when school is over, of the work they did during the week. I actually really enjoy going abck through the weeks work and seeing all they have done. :)

This is a great idea too... Do you have the kids stand with it? Sort of display for the camera?

Yes, I have done that! That is usually the only way pictures get taken at our house. I will have the kiddos stand with their finished project or with their faces next to their completed notebooking page. :D It's not ideal, but they do love to look at the pictures when I get around to taking them.

Another great idea, if you don't have time to blog, may be a digital picture frame. One of my sisters asked for one for her birthday. She has it in her kitchen and uses it to continually show pictures on a loop. The kiddos love seeing their smiling faces with their school projects, and it's a great reminder to her of all that the kiddos have accomplished and of how much fun they've had throughout their school days. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I keep my camera in our school cabinet and then pull it out with the books when we head up to do LHTH or now LHFHG. I just snap as we go during school. I don't snap while I'm reading...we cuddle up. But, I'm usually always snapping while they're doing, and then I join in on the fun with them after I have a picture of it. I love seeing my kids smiling faces and looking back at everything we've accomplished, too! :D Our screensaver on the computer is pictures, and the kids love to stand and watch it and remember school, too.
