My 10 yo dd wants to learn how to knit. I don't know how and I don't like reading directions from a book to learn crafty things.

Any suggestions?

I Can't Believe I am Knitting DVD. You might be able to get it at the library. It worked great for my kids.

Our library has a group that meets once a month and most women there are willing to help a novice. Maybe check for a group like that in your area.

There are lots of you tube videos for beginning knitters. That's how my sil was able to learn. It's too hard to learn from a book. Most have to see it being done.

I find the videos at www.knittinghelp.com to be very helpful.

This isn't "traditional" knitting, but in the sewing class I teach, we use circular looms. You can find them in most craft stores, and can make nearly anything out of them, even blankets. They are much easier to handle than knitting needles. It might be a good place to start to get the hang of it. My experience teaching kids knitting, is that many get frustrated and quit before their hands get used to the motions and you can knit quickly without thinking about each stitch.
