Order in Preparing

Post by allforjesus » Wed Sep 16, 2009 8:08 pm

I read the previous post about time for Preparing. We do Math U See and Cheerful Cursive, but definitely are not done in 4 hours. I stop at 4 hours wherever we are because ds is exhausted. I have to weave in my dd's Beyond work also. I wondered what order you have found works best for the boxes? Do you do left side, then right, or just whatever order seems good? Just wondered on your preferences out there and any good tips for balancing this.

Hi! We're only in our 3rd week of Preparing so I'm no expert, but here's what we have been doing. While my dd is doing LHFGH with me my ds does the 2 independent boxes (Ind. History and Science). When we are done doing that, I will tend to tackle things like Language Arts or Poetry because he struggles with L.A. and we want to get it over with! I always begin the left side (except the ind. history) with the Reading About History then Story time and then the History project and end with the vocab./research/timeline/geography box. I quickly realized that sometimes putting the boxes on the left in a different order was like putting the cart before the horse. :) We'll then be to lunch and then we tackle math and DITHOR and I like to leave Bible Study for last because I enjoy ending on that note.

Something like this:
Ind. History
Science
Rod and Staff LA
Poetry
Reading about History
Storytime
History Project
vocab./research/timeline/geography
Math
Dithor
Bible Study

That's our order and it works good for us!

HTH!
God bless, Michelle

Hi Sue Ann! :D I have my schedule from PHFHG and LHFHG (about a month in) - my original schedule is on the "Let's Share Our Schedules" thread, but this is the one I used after the first month of school. Maybe something could be helpful here?

I'm sorry it's kind of long and probably has some information you don't need, but I was quite sick last year and had to type a pretty detailed schedule for my mom to come help out. Anyway, it always really helps me to reflect on the day if it's going long or seems hectic - since none of us fondly dream of that as our day to day homeschooling experience. For me, staying off the phone, the computer, stopping household chores until afternoon, and dropping anything additional school-wise I was adding to the day made a big difference. It also helped to plan specific things for the toddler and work toward training him to do some fairly independent things. You are such a heartfelt mom - I know having met you at the book fair - so, don't worry - time does a lot to naturally shave time off the day, as well as teaching dc to use the guide. The order I shared in the above schedule worked well for us - hope something there clicks for you and your little honeys. :D

Sue Ann,

The order I used for Preparing Hearts last year is on this page of the following thread (if you scroll down the page): viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15

Hope that helps a bit!

Blessings,
Carrie

I do it EXACTLY how Michelle does! That's just how we've been doing it for the last several weeks and it's working great.
