Am I supposed to be using the textbook or just the activities in the guide along with the workbook? Please clarify.

Carrie has written hands-on activities to go along with EB 2A & B, 1A &B, and 2A & B. So if you have the corresponding guides with the right activities, the activities plus the workbook are all you need.
LHFHG - Earlybird 2A & B
Beyond - 1A & B
Bigger - 2A & B
The other option is to use the textbook and workbook combo for 1A & B and 2A & B. HOD has several levels of math scheduled in the appendix of the different guides.
Once you get to level 3A on up, you follow the schedule in the appendix of the guides that uses the textbook and workbook combination. The kids move from having the hands-on approach to looking at pictorial examples of the problems.
Does that make sense?

Ditto to what Kathleen said so well!

I'd opt for the hands-on HOD plans and workbook only up through 2B. They're awesome! Then, starting with 3A we just used the Textbook/Workbook sets (since HOD no longer has hands-on plans written at that point).
