I already had a copy of Hillyer's A Child's History of the World so I didn't purchase it with Preparing. But, I must have a different version. Mine is published by Calvert 1997 copyright. Can someone tell me if the Chapter Titles are numbered the same as in the version HOD sells? I'll only list a few as there are SO many. Thank you!
1. How Things Started
2. People Who Lived in Caves
3. FIre! Fire! FIre!
4. From an Airplane
5. Real History Begins
6. The Puzzle Writers in Egypt
7. The Tomb Builders
8. A Rich Land Where There Was No Money
9. The Jews Search For a Home
10. Fairy-Tale Gods
11. A Fairy-Tale War
12. The Kings of the Jews
13. The People Who Made Our ABC's
14. Hard as Nails
15. The Crown of Leaves
16. A Bad Beginning

Hi, Polly! A Child's History of the World (CHOW) has been revised since your copy was published. I can't recall the exact year but I'm sure it was redone since yours was published. There are additional chapters now, especially towards the end of the book as it gets into more modern history. I'm not sure how that would influence how Preparing would work for you, if you used the copy you have. You may be able to. It wouldn't be too hard to match up the chapters. I did that myself with another curriculum that uses CHOW. I went ahead and got the updated one to use with Preparing though.
If you would like to PM me, I can send you a link to a chart that is available online that may help you to match the chapters up to the current edition. That wouldn't solve the problem of the additional chapters but you could figure out which ones in the book you have match up to the newer edition. I think most of the chapters have the same names (minus the additional ones of course).

Polly,
I also have the 1997 Calvert version of CHOW and it is what we used for Preparing last year. This is the copy that is scheduled because in the Front of Preparing under History 'Star' Resources it says
A Child's History of the World by Virgil M. Hillyer (Calvert Education Services, 1997) note: This text is available in several different versions, but only the 1997 version matches with the page numbers in this guide and includes the additional end chapters needed for this study."
Here are the ending chapters for mine:
86 Modern Barbarians
87 Fighting the Dictators
88 A New Spirit in the World
89 A New BIG POWER in the World
90 Trying to Keep Peace
91 Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
So take a deep breath and relax. You are fine!

My page numbers don't match as far as I can tell. The map that is supposed to be on page 17 is on page 23. If the chapters are the same I can read by chapters. Are the chapters the same? Thanks for your help.

Polly, I'm sorry, I think I gave you incorrect info. CHOW was last updated in 1994. There is a 1997 edition and it's the same one that is used in Preparing. I think you have just what you need. The titles of the chapters may be slightly different but I don't think you will have any problem knowing what to read next, just be looking at the subject matter.
I'm sorry. My original CHOW was older than yours and that's the one I thought you had.
I'm sending you the link to the chart I told you about so you can check the chapters out.
