DITHOR and Storytime

Post by ncmomof5 » Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:35 pm

This may seem like a silly question to some of you, or maybe it's one that has been addressed in the past, but I have to ask it. I have yet to do DITHOR, and I keep looking at the storytime box and wondering why storytime AND DITHOR? I am sure DITHOR goes into more depth and detail, but I guess that's why I wonder, why not DITHOR or storytime?

Don't get me wrong. I love to read, and my kids love to read and be read to. It's more a matter of trying to fit it all in.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts to help me clear up this confusion in my brain.

In His love,
RuthAnn

Hi there!

I am doing Bigger Hearts and DITHOR with my daughter. We will be starting DITHOR next week--easing into things! To let you know, Storytime is simply just a read aloud time everyday. All your kids can even sit down and listen. During Storytime the guide has you just mentioning a few things about the genre you are reading from, along with a few discussion questions. DITHOR is an in-depth study of several genres and teaches many different skills. The parent teaches DITHOR on an individual basis to the kids. I have been studying it in prep to begin and am so happy I decided to go with it. I think its great for any child, but especially children who struggle with reading comprehension and things like that. Really helps sharpen those skills. By the way, DITHOR is one of Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks for homeschool curric. and I can see why!! Hope this helps!

Storytime is you reading to your child and DITHOR is them reading on their own.
