CTC and future guides... question about grades...

Post by butterfly113 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 1:09 pm

 I am wondering if there is a way to 'keep' grades with these guides... Is it necessary? I have kept grades up until this year, as we were in more textbook/workbook format stuff... Now we are in PHFHG, and I haven't really kept grades so far... we are in week 4. Should I be keeping grades? How should I go about grading with discussions, narrations etc... especially as we get in older grades... any advice? TIA!!! :D

A - Amazing
B - Beautiful
C - sCraping by
D - Do-over
F - Forget about trying to turn this in.

LOL. That's about how far grading gets in my house. I have NO answer for you. I was just feeling like a stinker and knew you'd put up with me, Butterfly.

Thought I might add that today during written narration, ds was feeling a little 'tired and hungry'. So after listening to a smidget of whining I said, "Hang with me, and let's finish this up. Your work is great, but the heart is a little rough around the edges! Do you want an A for Awesome or a D for Do-over???!!!" Instant heart change! "Oh NO Mommy, no do-overs, I want to glorify GOD, I'm good now!"

Ladies,

You gave me a smile today! :D I agree that grading is fairly subjective for most subjects, so we use the portfolio approach for most of the work within our guides instead. Subjects such as grammar and math are easier to grade, if desired. Even then, we would typically recommend grading only at the chapter reviews and only on the second review of Singapore (using the first review as practice). :D Until high school, most states have the option of either keeping grades or keeping a portfolio to record academic progress.

Blessings,
Carrie
