Little Hearts History and Science are *perfect*

Post by Tree House Academy » Tue Sep 01, 2009 11:07 am

I am so pleased!!!! My little guy totally understood the History reading and was able to DISCUSS it with me! Praise God!!!

Actually, I liked it so much that I have now ordered the Read alouds for Little Hearts as well. While little guy enjoyed Squanto, "Sword in the Tree" is above his head and understanding. He is not able to do oral narration at all with it. It could be that I just chose the wrong book, but I doubt it. I think he just needs to start at the beginning with these new concepts and ideas. So...I ordered the Storytime books as well as the "Thinking Skills Grade 1" book. It looks like we will be doing LHFHG this year moreso than Beyond. We will, however, keep with the Language Arts box, 2nd grade spelling words, and Emerging Readers from Beyond.

And...it never hurts to know that I now have curriculum for next year AND the year after that (my older is doing Bigger this year) for the little fella. That helps a lot since I will be buying CTC and some of the more expensive, older grade packages in the future. :)

I was following your posts, and I'm so happy to hear you found what your son needed!

We did Little Hearts last year, and enjoyed it so much! I think it's great you're getting the Read Alouds as well. We loved the Burgess Thornton books for many reasons, but they are especially fantastic for teaching narration skills. I think you will be very pleased! I also liked the Ken Taylor book for Bible time...but I think I raved about that enough last year, lol.

It is amazing how well these programs are put together. I love HOD! :D

Happy teaching,

Joy

We are only on the first Burgess book, but my DS loves them...since we didn't do HOD last year we ordered the Finding the Answers book and are doing this as well as the First Grade Thinking Skills...he likes both of them as well. So far we are having a really great year. Once we finish our phonics program we will start the Emerging Readers. Glad you have found a niche (sp?) for him!!

That's super to hear, Rebecca! :D We found a lot to love about LHFHG too last year - the history, the science, the Thorton Burgess books, the Ken Taylor book, the CD - oh, I could go on too but will stop there. I am so glad you've hit your stride and your little guy is loving it! :D

Rebecca,

I'm so glad to read your update. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I know you have spent much time and prayer over this decision, and I am so glad that the Lord has shown you what was best for your family. We pray you'll enjoy LHFHG as much as we did last year with my own 6 year old. He loved it all and beamed through school. With 4 boys jostling for my attention, he was thrilled to have his special school time with just me. It was a great growing experience school-wise but also in our relationship. We wish you that kind of year! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks so much ladies! I feel such a peace now. I am pretty certain you all told me I should use LHFHG from the very beginning! 8) Oh...if only I would LISTEN. LOL
