Post by momof5woodstockga » Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:02 pm

These are what my daughter will be doing after her readings. She is finishing up last weeks unit 2 reading and will do Unit 3 this week with Planet Earth and Child's Story.
I just tried to attach it and it won't let me. If you are interested in seeing it you can email me privately. hisworldisourschool@gmail.com
I will paste it below but i don't think you will be able to print it.
Science Unit 2 and 3

Read the Exploring Planet Earth pages 10-15 Discuss questions orally.
Notebooking:
1. Draw the Big Dipper on white paper and label it. Use a white crayon, pencil, and yellow mark. Color the background with a black pencil or lightly with crayon to create a night sky.
2. Answer the question where it can be find, why was it important to the explorers, and what did they called it.
3. Also include the Bible scripture that was referenced in the text.
There was a text box to draw in the space below.

Where can in be found? _______________________________________
The _______________________ was important to the explorers because __________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________.

Scripture: __________________________________________________

Read Pages 16-23 Discuss questions orally.
On page 22 it is mentioned they ate fish everyday prepared different. Google different ways to prepare fish on the internet. Explore various ways to prepare fish. Copy and paste at least one recipe into a word document. Print and prepare with mom’s help.

History Unit 3 Activities and Notebooking assignments

 Read pages listed on Daily check off and orally discuss with mom.

 After reading Child’s Story pp. 15-16 and 23-25 complete the following activities.

 And Henry Hudson the Navigator and Captain John Smith’s exploration and discovery of New Amsterdam/Long Island on your timeline.

 Add and label Long Island, NY to your map created last week.

 We typically see Pocahontas in typical Native American garb (braided hair, ¾ length deer skin dress and deer skin pants with a scarf tied around her head) of that time. During your reading you find out that Pocahontas married into an English family and traveled to England with them on a voyage. She spends time in English royalty. Do you imagine she remained in her traditional dress or conformed to dress of the English culture at that time? Look up Clothing in England in 1611. Cut and paste OR draw a picture of Pocahontas during that time. Cut and paste a picture OR draw of traditional dress in England during that time. Write a few sentences of how the need to change her style of dress to “fit in” may have affected her.

Hey,

This looks great. Did you come up with this on your own? Are you doing something like this for every unit?

Thanks,
RuthAnn

I'm thinking that this may be a similar post to another one that I responded to earlier on the board, but in case I didn't, I'll paste my previous response below:

I guess I'm not quite sure what this post is about, so if you want to clarify that would be great. I'm guessing that you may be adding your own twist or extension to the curriculum somehow, which is certainly fine. I'm glad to see that you're making it fit your family.

Since this board doesn't have a files section and is meant to be a discussion board for using the curriculum as written, it would be best to let moms know what you're doing and give an example (like you did above), and then offer to have moms private message you if they are looking to do something similar. :D

Otherwise, as the weeks pass, each time you share your own plans it will be very confusing (to moms who are trying to figure out how to use our guides as written) to decipher where your plans fit into the guides which we publish. :D

We pray that you'll enjoy the year with HOD! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
