I have DITHR waiting for me in the box. I have yet to open the box

!!! I don't have books for DITHR as I planned on ordering them from the library. My question is this:
How do I know which books to pick and how many books do I need for the first few weeks?
Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Terri,
If you have your DITHOR teaching manual, there is a section in the back called "Getting Started" that tells you how you should pace and choose your books. We are using the recommended book pack, so that made it easy! A "Sample Book Ideas" list also came with my DITHOR order with many good options. You can choose any book(s) you like, just make sure they fit into the genre you are working on.
Basically pacing for each of the genres is 15 days. You can either read:
3 books at 5 reading days each
1 book for 5 days, plus 1 book for 10 days
1 book for 15 days
You should try to pace it so your child can finish the genre in 15 days, reading about 15 minutes a day. So the length and difficulty of the books would be taken into consideration.
Hopefully that helped a little. The "Getting Started" section was really helpful for me. We are going to finish our first book tomorrow from the Biography section. It was Amelia Earhart and we took 15 days to complete it. My daughter has really been enjoying the program! Have fun choosing!

Terri,
You can do this!

I would plan to start with whatever genre (type of literature) that your daughter is most interested in reading. Then, I would look on the booklist (that should be in your box) for book ideas within that genre.
If that feels too overwhelming, then you may wish to just use our books picks shown online instead (and follow our suggested pacing for number of days). I'd look at the Level 3 or Level 4/5 girl book sets to see which books are of interest to your daughter and start there using your library.
Here's a link to the Level 3 Book Set:
