DITHR book selection and pacing

I want my son to read the Pilgrims Progress and was going to have him read it as Adventure but I know it is an allegory. Is that okay? I am learning this whole literature thing as we go as well. I am kinda embarassed at how much I don't know.

None the less... in the pacing. I want him to do the reading pace of 1 book in 15 days. There are 224 pages in the book ( only 112 with words/112 with pictures). Okay, so to break that up you end up with 15 pages a day (again really only 7.5 reading) BUT the end of 15 pages doesn't always end at a "logical" break. So what do you do? Suggestions?

Thank you!

can you skim through and find logical stops for him and make a list for each day? It might mean stopping a couple pages short of the daily goal or reading a couple extra pages. Just an idea.

That's a great idea! Usually, I divide a book up by the number of days for it to be read (to have a general target in my mind as to how many pages the kiddos need to read each day in order to finish on time). Then, I vary from the target number of pages as needed to find good stopping points. I do try not to wander too far from the target number of pages, and typically it works out quite well.

Enjoy! :D
