online games

Post by georgiamomof3 » Tue Aug 25, 2009 3:13 pm

Hey everyone! We are currently using Preparing for my 4th grade dd, Little Hearts for our K ds, and Little Hands for our preschool ds. We started 3 weeks ago, but had a friend's daughter drop in on us for two of those weeks!

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for fun, educational websites, especially for my 9 year old dd? The little ones use Starfall and Sesame Street. My dd sometimes uses Shepherd's Software. We have old Jumpstart games, but they are too old for our new laptop to run! :? My kiddos try to convince me that Webkinz is educational, but I don't quite see it the same as they do!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

well the trivia section in webkinz has at age lvl questions in blocks of 50. and it is the fastest way to earn kinz cash in the game... yes they did that on purpose. But what do they need computer games for? other than to learn typing ?? maybe only give dc just typing games?

The kids LOVE playing on the computer! I allow them to play on it during the school day, but want them to play games and visit websites that actually reinforce skills they are learning at school. My dd has a typing cd, but I'll check out the link you gave.

My girls like to play at the American Girls website. Bookadventure.com is not a game, but it quizzes you on books you have read and gives you points for redeeming prizes. My girls like that.

Time4learning.com :D
This one cost $19.99/month or $14.99 if you pay quarterly with Paypal. It's very good and I have my kid's go there if I need one on one time with another child. There is a 2 week free trial (the online samples are not good enough). :D

This has been a great site to order from! The computer games are "free", and you just pay the shipping. The shipping goes down per item the more items you buy. Just be sure to check if the game fits your computer's operating system. :D

A website we found a few months ago that my son absolutely loves is:

http://www.iknowthat.com

I highly recommend it! You can pick the grade level and then a subject within the level. You can create a free account for your children to use the games on the site with advertising down the side OR you can subscribe for a fee to have the website without the advertising.

We've stuck with the free account and it's been fine. My son would play it for hours if I let him. :)
