Do you read your child's DITHR books?

LOL - I just want to see if I am nuts here (like I need confirmation)
I love DITHR - my BA is in English and I have read so much literature in my life, it isn't funny. It is no surprise that DITHR is one of my favorite parts of the day.
In the beginning, I figured that I would leave the reading to my son and just discuss the pages with him when needed. However, I found that I really didn't know what was going on in the book...so I started reading his assigned pages at night. Now, I am hooked on DITHR books! LOL My hubby comes to bed with some Steven King novel and here I am reading Jed Smith.

We are only in week two of Preparing Hearts and DITHOR, and one of the toughest things for me is to not read the books too! LOL! So this is what we are doing! For some of the things ds is supposed to read independently, he reads aloud to me... such as the Deluxe books and Science selections. We take turns in DITHOR... he reads a few paragraphs or a page, and then I. When he has an oral or written narration, I have him read again independently the sections to make sure he comprehends and can answer the questions. We just love reading here too!

We aren't doing DITHR here yet (my oldest is doing the Emerging Readers), but I do know that I am enjoying the books we are using for Storytime so much, that I can totally understand your wanting to read your son's DITHR books! When dd is reading something for fun and comes to tell me about it, a lot of times I'm thinking, "Hey, I want to read that too!"
So, no, you aren't crazy.

Rebecca,
We are just finishing Jed Smith, as well. I totally feel the same way! I have been wanting to read the selections, but have not been able to this book (other than when ds reads his 3-4 pages out loud). I am hoping to read our adventure selection along with ds more. Have you found the DITHOR discussions fuller now that you are reading the book along side your dc?
Blessings,
Cindy

How interesting!
I LOVE reading the kiddo's books too, especially when I'm choosing books for the new guides and new levels. When I come across a truly excellent book, I just get tingles all over!
There aren't nearly as many excellent books as you'd think! I'm so glad that you're loving the books picks for DITHR.
Blessings,
Carrie

Absolutely, yes! My son is just starting his 1st year in DITHR, but he is in 5th grade, so we are using the 4/5 guide. It is not "easy" and really requires a lot of thought in some areas. I have found that, by reading the books, when my son gets stuck and can't really think of - say, and example of a certain character trait - I am right there to jump in and remind him and get him thinking again. If I were not familiar with the book, I couldn't do that nearly as well.
Besides...we are reading James and the Giant Peach next and who could NOT re-read that book????
