Probably this question has been asked before, so I am going to apologize in advance to all of you who have been here long enough to hear the same questions come up again and again!

I have been looking through LHTH and getting ready to start on Monday morning... I think I would like to add a picture book storytime to the schedule for the girls, and I'm wondering what you all have used to that effect.

Of course, a daily time of reading to the girls is something I already try to do daily, with or without "school"... I guess this is my overly type-A personality coming out? I would love to have a list of great books to follow and check off as we go.

Thoughts?

I have Before Five in a Row and I'm using some of those books as well as ones I've seen recommended other places. Some books we are using are below. I'm going to choose one book per week and have it go along with the letter we are doing for the week. I'm scheduling 30 minutes for us to read the book and then do an activity, craft, snack centered around the book theme. I've been researching online as you can find a ton of free ideas. Good luck!

We'll continue but I haven't completed my list yet, lol! Hope this is enough to get you started.

We loved the Treasury type books for this age. The Golden Book Treasury, the James Herriot's Treasury for Children, The Real Mother Goose, The 20th. Century Children's Book Treasury - these were some of our favorites. Also, Uncle Arthur's Bible Story books are fantastic! We found the whole set of 10 on ebay, but any of them are a find.

Looked up the Uncle Arthur's books.....yikes, those are expensive!!!

They are - they didn't used to be so expensive. In fact, they used to be in dentists' and doctors' offices. They're worth looking for over time. I got all 10 for $50 on ebay as a lot.

The rest of the books I mentioned are less expensive and very good as well! Happy hunting!

Jennifer, looks like your dd's are only a year behind mine. It'll be fun to compare notes as we go along through LHTH this year! I really love your idea about matching books to the letters of the week to give the storytime a connection to the rest of the curriculum for the girls. I am going to print out your list and add to it! I will try to post if I think of other books for the letters with no titles listed yet.

Julie, I had forgotten all about those anthology type books. They are perfect though! We have a couple of the ones you listed and all my dc love them. I used to think of them as not the best option -- I would rather buy each individual book. But my dc have surprised me by seeming especially attracted to those oversize books with lots of pages & lots of stories. Time for a couple of new ones!

jewel7123 - thanks so much for the idea list! I'm doing LHTH with my girls and I like having our storytime fit in well. I haven't started checking our library (I reserve online thank goodness) to see what they have that might match up so having some titles to check for is much appreciated! We read 2-3 a day for school storytime. We start next week. I've been creating my own preschool curriculum for the past 2 years so I'm so happy to follow along this time.

I was looking for this sort of storytime for LHTH also.

Would you mind explaining to me a little more how you plan on matching it up with LHTH? You mentioned choosing one book per week to go along with the letter of the week in LHTH. But, you have more than one book listed under certain letters. Could you please share a little more about how you are going to fit the story/activity/craft/snack into your schedule?
