Just a couple of questions

I am getting ready to place an order and just had a couple of last minute questions.
I am going to be using HOD with 3 kids. 6 y.o. will be in LHFHG, and I am going to combine the 2 older kids in Bigger. They are 8 and 10. The 8 y.o. fits perfectly into Bigger on the placement chart and will be using it as is. My 10 y.o. fits into Preparing on the chart. I am going to do Bigger with extensions for him. My questions are regarding science and Bible. For science, is there enough for a 10 y.o. 5th grader with the Bigger science plus extensions or would you use the science from Preparing? Also, for Bible, I would kind of like to do that portion together as a family. Is it o.k. to do the Bible from Bigger with both? Thanks for any input!!

Good morning, Gretchen! We did LHFHG and BHFHG together a few years back and loved it. You are in for a great year!

The BHFHG extension includes both science and history, so your bases are totally covered there

(the extensions are written for 10-11 yo's). For Bible, I think I'd still do the LHFHG Bible individually with the 6 yo (it only takes about 5-10 minutes), and then do the group Bible time with BHFHG.
In Christ,
Julie

Thanks Julie! I was mostly wondering about the science and wasn't sure if I should order the science portion of Preparing also. I also like that the extension in Bigger covers enough science. I think that will be easier to handle as we transition into HOD. Thanks for your response!

Hi Gretchen,
We used Bigger last year - with extensions - for my 5th and 6th grader. I would not add Preparing Science. First try out the first 2 weeks and have him do both the regular Bigger Science and the Extension Science. IF he can keep up with that just LOVES science than I would add a fun hands-on book or science kits. Bigger Science (extensions) is mostly dealing with the History of Science and doesn't have a lot of hands on action. My boys participate in our local Envirothon Competition. This is a national competition. Ask around at your local homeschool groups. This allows my boys to learn more in-depth about local native wildlife, habitat and environmental sciences.
