Any suggestions for read-alouds?

My ds will be 5yo in October, and we have recently started LHFHG, which we both love. He particularly likes the Burgess book, which we read at lunchtime, and chapter books in general. He also likes to listen to a chapter from a book before bed. We found an Uncle Wiggily storybook, which he loves and we're sadly almost done with, and we found another Burgess book to read that's not scheduled for LHFHG. He really liked Little House in the Big Woods and Mr. Popper's Penguins, which we read before we found out they're on tap for next year :) So...does anyone have any suggestions, given his young age, for other books we could read before bed? It's okay if some of it goes over his head, but I'd rather not read too many books from Beyond just yet  Thanks!

My Father's Dragon (Set of three books)
Phantom Tollbooth
Dr. Dolittle (Multiple titles)
Caddie Woodlawn (My children liked this book better than the Little House series)
Trumpeter of the Swan
Cricket in Times Square
Secret of NIMH (Not at all like the movie. More science-like versus the magic you see in the movie).

I'm not sure what books are mentioned in Beyond since we didn't use that guide. These are books I read to my son when he was about 5yo.

krismoose,

You could even bump ahead and do one of the sets of read-alouds in Beyond (Boy, Girl, or Classic), saving the other sets for next year. We do manage to read pretty much all of the books in the HOD sets by listening to one book aloud on tape/CD at lunch (my mother-in-law read them for the kiddos on CD as a gift), reading another aloud to everyone, and using the other set in DITHR or for free-reading.

Blessings,
Carrie
