Will Bigger be a lot more than Beyond?

I'm freaking out because I feel like Bigger will be SO much more work than Beyond. Assure me that we will be fine transitioning to the next grade. This is for ds 8yrs, going into 3rd grade.

He loves the hands on stuff but hates the writing parts.

I am doing both bigger and beyond right now at the same time (older is doing bigger with extensions and younger is doing beyond). Sure, Bigger is more work than Beyond - but it is not such a drastic jump that you should be afraid. Each year gets harder...that is how it is supposed to be. HOD is so gentle that it just flows. It is definitely not piled on in some obvious kind of way. There is more writing...but if your ds hates writing, then he NEEDS to do more writing.

I haven't done Beyond yet, but I can tell you that Bigger is very hands-on, and very FUN! :D :D I loved every day of Bigger last year with my 8 yo, 3rd grade boy!! :D (He happens to also not be fond of writing, but grew incredibly with it through the year. )

The vocabulary on Day 3 of each unit seemed to be the most difficult for Grant as far as the writing goes. Here is the plan we landed on that really helped him move along with that part of the guide. I posted it in this week-in-review post. (You'll have to scroll down to my post there...but I think there are a few other glimpses of Bigger on that week, too. :D ) viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2120&p=16344&hilit ... ary#p16344

As we moved through the year, Grant started writing for 2 or all 3 of the words. :D

You're going to have a great year!!

It's going to be great. :D Carrie has these programs set up perfectly to go one after the other. I was having the same panic about going from LHFHG to Beyond this year because I have one that is combined with my other a year under the program. I realized though that even her being younger is going to be great. Well that is after Julie assured me, hahahaha! And I took a really deep look at it and realized she is perfectly ready for it and having done Bigger I can see how she will be ready for that as well. It all just kind of eases up to the next step. We know it is a next step but they don't really. You are going to absolutely love Bigger. In fact I had the hardest time keeping my 5 and 7 year old out of doing Bigger activities and listening to the reading. :? I finally gave up and just let them listen. Luckily they are still excited to do it themselves when the time comes. :D

Enjoy Bigger, you'll love it!

Hi,
Here is an older thread on this very topic. I'll also have a 3rd grade boy going into Bigger this fall.

It was very helpful to me to hear from the other moms who had 3rd grade boys who did/are doing Bigger.
