book question for Bigger

Post by gracelikerain » Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:07 pm

Hi, :D

I was wondering about the books Bud & Me & Tolliver's Secret. How are they & would I be missing something great if I didn't get them? My library doesn't have them & I can't buy them right now. Any thoughts from those who have read them????

Thanks so much! 8)

We didn't read them and did just fine. But I might not be a good person to say because we didn't technically finish Bigger (we started mid-year and are now moving on to Preparing).

What I've done with some books for Preparing tho is I go to Amazon and type in the name of the book, like Tirzah. Up it comes with reviews, but also other books like it. Then I can read the reviews, since there are other homeschoolers there that read childrens hist fiction, and find one or two that will do nicely for the time period, then I toggle on over to my library online catalog and see if they have it. If so, then I make a note that I can get such and so title when I need it. It's just a way for me to economize. As much as I'd love to build a fabulous home library right now, I just can't buy every single book.

I have also used Paperbackswap quite a lot. And I figure the ones I get from there I will turn around and list again later. Especially some of the very girl interest - my next child is a boy so I don't feel the need to save lots of the more girl interest ones. I also got almost all of my history readers and science books off PBS. Now I am going to start entering in wishes for some of the CTC ones to give myself a year to collect what I can.

Do you have a support group in your area? If so, you may want to ask around about borrowing some certain titles too. I have found some similar books between Sonlight and MWF to name a few.

Good luck!

Wyatt did really love both of these books, I have to say. He's reread them both at least several times - but I understand about making choices about what's most important - so I hope you'll know what to do here considering all that you need to to make a choice. :D
