Preparing Users... A question about time and scheduling...

Post by butterfly113 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:12 am

FOr those of you that have used Preparing, have you found that each day takes about the same amount of time? Is there any particular day that takes longer or shorter? Thanks!

I haven't exactly timed each day of each of the 3 units we have done so far. However, I will say that it has seemed liked each day is about the same. Tasks that take a little longer are balanced out with easier tasks each day and it is varied which boxes will have the longer tasks. I have been very pleased so far with how Carrie has scheduled everything. It has a nice flow to it. I could try to time it but it probably wouldn't be accurate because sometimes I might have a child who is being stubborn with a certain subject, I get a phone call, I need to deal with the animals etc. So each day is different with it's challenges but as far as the actual schoolwork it has felt fairly even to me. Sorry this isn't an exact answer. I have learned to set a timer in Math and English to keep us moving ahead. Math gets 30 minutes and English gets 15. We are doing a different Math so if they don't finish the assignment we continue it to the next day. In English we do about a third of each of the sections and if we still have time we come back to finish the rest. We usually have time.

Last year, we found each day took about the same amount of time because of the way Carrie balanced and rotated things each day. This past thread may be helpful with planning your schedule:

Butterfly,

When writing the guides, we do actually look at balancing out your time among all of the boxes, just as the ladies said. So, we too found with Preparing last year that when one subject took longer, other subjects were shorter. This helped our days be even in the overall amount of time takent to do school each day. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
