Anyone used Singapore plus another math program too?

Post by JoyousBlessings » Mon Jul 13, 2009 8:54 am

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has used Earlybird Singapore along with another math program? I am thinking about using Rod and Staff math along with Singapore, but I don't know if it would work well. Also, how would I go about scheduling?

I know Singapore focuses on lots of mental math and problem solving without tons of review. Rod and Staff seems to be the basics like addition/subtraction, place value, coin counting, etc..... with quite a bit of review, which I want my son to learn also.

Should I do something like this or just pick up some books from the store on basic mathematics to teach my son along with Singapore? I have seen books by Kumon on money, place value, time telling, etc... that look good and would provide the supplements I am looking for also.

Thanks so much and have a nice day! : )))

We are currently using R&S and Singapore, because I have not been able to decide for sure which program to go with! My 2nd grade dd is in R&S 2nd grade math, and Singapore 1B. My 1st grade ds is in R&S 1st grade math, and Singapore 1A. Each day during "math time", they each do their R&S lesson. Then, after lunch, we do Singapore. We are using Beyond, so I have post-it notes marking where each of them is for math. So, we are not trying to keep the math activities lined up with where we are for the left side of the plans. I figured it's better to flip around and keep them each at their own level for math. So far, they don't mind doing 2 math programs. They both find Singapore math to be very fun, and it only takes a few minutes.

I have tried to do MUS and Singapore together in the past. My 10 yo dd is in Gamma of MUS and I am going to start her back up in Singapore also. I think I will just keep the other children in Singapore for now.

We're using ACE math with Singapore, but the ACE is more just for practice. My dd can complete a whole PACE in one sitting.

We are using Math Mammoth with Singapore and really like that combination. We also use Quarter Mile Math software for drill practice.
