for me!

OK girls, I have learned so much about the computer from hanging out on the board here. But it still doesn't always come naturally to me. For the last year, I've been noticing that when most of you post a link to a past thread you get this cute little line they can click on. When I do it...it's a BIG long address. So, can someone tell me your secret?? :D I experiemented on my own. No luck.

Thanks!
:D Kathleen

You will have to use BBcode. I'll try to show you one with broken parts so you can see what I'm saying.

I'll link to Heart of Dakota.

I can just plunk the link down into the post like this.....http://www.heartofdakota.com/

or I can use BBcode to create a link like this...

Heart of Dakota

This difference is code. Here is how to do it....

[url = http;// your link/]What you want your link called[/ url]

Just get rid of all the spaces. Hope that helps.

Ok, here goes trail #1... (And if it works, you can take a peek at the scheduling thread from last fall. )

Thanks, Daisy! :D

I always thought that it must have something to do with the "code" button at the top of the post reply box. What you suggested works great...but I still have no clue what the "code" button is. And, I'm pretty sure I'm good with that until I get curious in a couple more years.

O.k. - please forgive me if I have totally misunderstood this question - and just ignore my answer then. But, when I am posting a link, I click on the little picture (a globe for me) next to the link in the toolbar, it automatically hi-lights the Internet address, then I copy it and past it right into my post. It saves me from trying to type all of those letters, symbols, and numbers - which I would most certainly mess up otherwise. When I am in the middle of typing an HOD post, and I want to link to another post (or Internet address), I like to go under "File" and click "New Window", getting on the HOD website again (essentially twice), finding the link I want, copying it, and then clicking back in the post I'm working on to paste the link. Did that make any sense at all?!? Is this at all what you were asking? If not, just disregard it. And yes, there are times I have 3 or more HOD windows open... Hopeless - aren't I?!?

In Christ,
Julie :)

Ok, Julie... What I was wondering is why when I was posting a link it comes out looking like this:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093

And when you and Carrie (and several others) post a link it's so short like in this post:
Carrie wrote:You may also wish to scroll down to see my daily schedule doing Bigger on this thread: :D

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093

Blessings,
Carrie
But, I think that I just answered my own question by quoting Carrie here. I don't need to hit the "URL" button at the top of the posting box. I can just put the address there.

I know...it's not really a big deal. Now, to see if I really did figure it out.

And, I do the same thing you do with having several copies of the board open to search for things. (I figured that one out after losing a post or 2 to look for something. )

Woo Hoo! :D It worked! 8)
