This year I finally made it up to Philadelphia and Boston in this (cold wet and rainy) summer. (We have supporters in both cities!! great excuse to go there!)
And I pursued my dream of having the kids see the mayflower II and plimoth plantation, boston, lexington, concord, and Philadelphia.
We walked the freedom trail and saw all these places we had learned about. We even saw the constitution (copy) and the room where it was signed. ( I got very emotional :o )

My youngest was blown away that these places were real not just stories in a book. All the actors dressed up interpreting their roles were a big hit.
My oldest was super excited to meet Ben Franklin and looked at me and said "You said he died long ago!" but "Ben Franklin" backed me up cause he wasn't actually acting his part that day... But he So much looked like Ben the girls were positive it was him.

We looked for Phyllis Wheatly's father's grave in Park street churches' grave yard. And all my eldest wanted from the gift shop was a book of Phyllis's poetry. That was pretty darn cool. ok wait she did want a quill pen too.

Since they had learned all this stuff it wasn't a boring old trip that "Mom is making us go on" but a eye opening experience that made history come alive.
So Thanks a Million! We would not have had so much fun with out all that history!

Oh how fun! We hope to do that some day. I remember seeing all those places as a teenager. It sure is neat to actually visit all those important places in our nation's history. We saw the alamo this year and my daughter had a similar reaction.

Tansy,

What a wonderful trip you had! I'm getting emotional just thinking about seeing the sights that you mentioned. My hubby and I definitely want to take our kiddos to vacation in the East and be steeped in early American history too! :D

It is amazing what little minds remember isn't it!?! How cute that your girls thought the tour guide really WAS Ben Franklin. :D

Thanks so much for sharing! You brightened my day.

Blessings,
Carrie
