First Day with Preparing!

Well, we had our first day with Preparing! We Loved it! The kids kept saying how much they liked their new school. :D When their cousins came over this afternoon they got out their binders right away and had to show their arctic tundra map and coat of arms. I really enjoyed how the curriculum got me involved and I thought the stories were very interesting.

I was glad for the poetry segment because I haven't worked with them on poetry yet and they really enjoyed it. At first we felt unsure about how to make the motions with the Scripture verses but we figured it out and had a lot of fun with that and I think they've already just about memorized their scripture for the week.

Math was our only struggle today. We aren't doing singapore because when I did the placement tests with them they would have been set back so far I thought I would stay with what we had. (Christian Liberty, Modern Curriculum Press) DS forgot division and had to relearn and DD forgot multiplication and had to relearn so we were working on Math at least an hour today just trying to do two pages each. But I think things will go more smoothly next time.

We are taking tomorrow off to go to the library and the pool with my sister. I love only having 4 day weeks!

Oh, and they also loved their new R&S books. My ds especially liked them and kept talking about how he liked the hard cover and he seemed very interested in the new way of working through it where you answer some orally and some written on notepad instead of all textbook like he was used to.

I think next time I will have them read a little more aloud because I kind of wished I could have heard the story of the Woolly Mammoth and Amelia Earhart and Jed Smith. DS LOVED Jed Smith by the way! He read 8 pages of it lickety split and was trying to talk me into more of it. DD liked her Amelia Earhart and was proud of the leaves and trees that she drew from Draw & Write.

Anyway, sorry this is so long. I just wanted to say Woo Hoo, Yippee, Yay, we Love HOD!!!  :!: :!:
Thanks,
Leah

Leah,

Yea! That sounds like a great first day!! :D I'm so glad that you and your kids are really enjoying it. :D (And the great thing about HOD is that you'll still be saying how great your days were in unit 35. )

Have fun!
:D Kathleen

HOORAY, Leah! :D Your first day went so well, and I'm so proud of your dc digging in with gusto right from the start of school. Anytime dc want so show their cousins something, that's the true mark of it being pretty special (at least at our house it is :D ). That's so neat they wanted to share their school with them like that. We just finished PHFHG a month or so ago, and I can tell you, Kathleen is right - you'll still be loving it in Unit 35! The only "ups" and "downs" we had were like this... UP! - we got to start a new book :D , oh no - DOWN - we were coming to the end of the book and didn't want it to end  (we almost cried when Grandpa's Box ended, and when Triumph for Flavius ended, and when Fountain of Life ended, and oh ... but then UP! - we got to start a new book again! :D :D :D There is not one bad read aloud in the bunch. They are all just stellar! Your year is going to be nothing short of fantastic - have fun with PHFHG - I can't wait for when I get to teach it again in a few years! :D

In Christ,
Julie
