I wanted to study state history and wondering when to add it. I had thought to do it next year-2010-11(the curriculum I was looking at looked like we would maybe need to be older), but on looking at what is covered in Bigger which what my oldest will be ready for in the fall of 2009 I am wondering if I should include it with Bigger and not wait as the history in Preparing is world history. Thanks for any thoughts. Rachel

Hi Rachel,

You might want to include it with bigger. Here are some other threads covering this subject that you might find helpful:

In addition to how it is introduced in BHFHG, more comprehension state study will also be included in the future HOD cycle of guides.

Yes, in years 3 and 4 of our four year cycle of guides, we are planning to schedule a study of the child's individual state and then to schedule a 50 state's study in the other year. We've found with our oldest son that he retained much more of that type of study by doing it when he was older. We also love to give kiddos a chance to hear stories that give a historical perspective of our country and a feel for some of the states (through Beyond and Bigger) before entering into a more in-depth study of each state (in the middle school years). However, you are welcome to do it whenever it best fits your family goals. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
