4 day week schedule...

Hi!

Has anyone done LHFHG using a 4-day week schedule? I see the guide is written for a 5 day week and I'd like to somehow condense it to a 4 day week since our Fridays are mostly going to be taken up by our co-op. Just wondering if anyone has done this and how it worked out?? Thanks! :)

i was interested in the exact same thing and couldn't figure out how i would make it work - i'm interested to see what others have to say! i imagine it would be easy to combine two days of History/Bible into one day...the phonics/math stuff would be harder i think...hmmm...

We just do 4 days of the unit each week, then start on the 5th day the following week. Day #'s do not have to fall strictly on M-F (Day 1 doesn't mean Monday). We frequently start a Day 1 lesson on a Friday and it doesn't mess up the flow at all. It will take us into the summer or into the fall if we don't school through some of summer. But, I'm in no rush to finish all the guides! You can just pick up where you left off.

Others might condense or use a Saturday. This could work too. You just have to find your groove...maybe phonics/math could be the only things carried over to summer and you condensed the other subjects into 4 days???

I am going to be doing the exact same thing in another year with my ds. We will just pick up each week, where we left off. :D We have already done LHFHG with some of my other dc, and it is wonderful!! Your going to love it!! :D

We're doing what Tamara and LeAnna described with Beyond, and we loved it! It worked out perfectly. :D We just school Monday through Thursday each week and get through 4 day's worth of plans. Then, on Monday, we pick up where we left off. We take the summers off, so for Beyond we stopped halfway through and will do the other half starting in August. Whenever you finish the guide, you can just move on to the next one - that will be Bigger Hearts for us. Can't wait! :D You'll love LHFHG - it is such a fun program, and it's exciting to watch how dc grow as they use it! :)

Julie

It is Julie! I was thinking back to when I started LHFHG with my dc, when she was 4.5. She has grown so much! She was struggling with writing and now we are writing all kinds of things! And, I can see that she's growing in concentration and comprehension as well. We too, will be doing Beyond at 4 days a week and carrying it over to the next year. I think it will work out beautifully. :D

I just posted about this too! We are going to do this in the fall I believe to stretch the rest of the guide out until the end of the year. We have already completed 11 units.

wow - it never occurred to me to just stop the guide at the end of the year and pick back up next year. while that is a good idea, i'm afraid i don't know how i would feel about not finishing. i'm kind of crazy like that.

I used to be that way too, but I decided to have this more laid back approach and see how it went. I love it! I have put together a plan to be on a four day a week schedule at the start of the year by the time I do Bigger Hearts full-speed. I figured this out by typing this post (just to show you how flexible HOD is and how you can make it work for the schedule you'd like) :D :
