When using the words along the bottom for more of a challenge do I say each word individually or all four at one time? Thank you

I say them one at a time with a significant pause (5-7 seconds) in between and I tell them to go to the next line after the 4 or so words so that their dictation looks like the book and they check it themselves.

I also said them one at a time, and that worked well!

When doing the dictation written in sentences though, I say short phrases at a time and pause in between them - I reread the directions in the HOD Appendix before the passages a few times over to myself, so I could get a good routine going. The tips worked great!

I am now a true believer in dictation; it has done more for my ds's spelling than anything else he's done. (Though I think copywork helps too!) I'm so glad all of those great skills are in HOD.
In Christ,
Julie

Thanks for the responses...I was wondering if I want to move my son further into the dictation schedule how I would decide where to start? He is doing very well and I am thinking we should have started later in the level. We started at the beginning of the first level....so need help deciding on placement
Thanks

HI Michelle,
I had that same question when we began back in December. Jump ahead to the half-way point of the year's assignments and see if that fits him just right. If not, you can always fall back a few. He should master a dictation in one to 3 days if it takes longer, it is too difficult. We jumped mid-way and it was perfect. When you finish the Level One assignments you can roll right into the second level. Enjoy!
