QUestions for Beyond

Post by simplepamom » Thu Jun 11, 2009 5:53 am

I am starting my 2 older dd's in beyond, but my oldest should probably have some supplements of some kind. I know it won't match nearly as well as the extension do in the other editions, but I really feel it is best to start lower and fly thorugh if need be, rather than starting too advanced. (it has been a long decision process, but I really think this is best)

I saw a few cookbooks- one a lewis and clark cookbook, one a US history cookbook, of course there is a little house cookbook, but I wasn't impressed with that, but certainly there are many other similar books-- I didn't see alot about lewis and clark in the curriculum of beyond, so I felt that was not as good a fit-- should I look more at maybe a cookbook for Holland/England? (I see there is a good bit that starts there?) (my thought is, this gives a little science practice, some reading, some additional math skills....)

I also thought about supplementing an apologia science for her- do you think that would be too much?

The cookbook idea sounds neat! What a fun way to incorporate what you are reading with hands on skills in the kitchen. I agree that supplementing an apologia science course would be good for your eldest. And I have a HUGE list of science readers that you can get from the library. If you want it I'd be happy to pm you so you could even give your 8 year old a little extra science without bogging down with more experiments. Just fun reading. You could also do some geography with your eldest if you are needing more for her- maybe geography of North America and Europe.
