I know in the DITHOR manual it gives amount of time involved in using DITHOR for the different levels. Does it really take as long as it states on a practical basis? Also about how many pages are assigned in the 6/7/8 workbook a day? Thanks!

playschool,

I'm sorry this thread got buried in the board. I'm just back from our yearly planning/researching/brainstorming session with my beloved sister, and we're playing catch-up now! :D

The times noted in the back of the DITHR guide are on the very long side. Typically at our house DITHR Level 2/3 takes 10-15 minutes for the discussion/lesson and another 5-10 minutes of reading. I usually schedule 20 minutes or so for it and it works out well. :D

Typically at our house Level 4/5 takes 10 minutes or so for the discussion/lesson with an additional 15 minutes of written work after our discussion for my son (who is a very neat but slower writer). Then, the reading assignment takes about 15 minutes. I typically schedule 35 minutes and it works well.

Typically at our house Level 6/7/8 takes approximately 10-15 minutes for our discussions (when those are scheduled), if there's no discussion then the written work takes my oldest son about 20 minutes. However, he is a quick writer. His reading assignments usually take him 15 minutes or so, but he is also a quick reader. I usually schedule 40 minutes or so for him, and he is always done early.

The times will vary some depending on your kiddo's personalities and writing/reading speed and focus. We do DITHR 3 times a week as scheduled in our HOD guides from Preparing Hearts on up. I find it to be excellent preparation for teaching my kiddo's moral discernment in reading and also in guiding them to automatically dig beneath the surface whenever they're reading anything! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you! I was a little overwhelmed by the times in the DITHOR TM. I am glad to hear that it could be done in a shorter amount of time. Thanks again for all of your hard work and answering all of my questions.
