Does anyone have any experience coming in from another english/grammar program? My son will be in 3rd grade next year and his christian school used Saxon for K, 1st,and 2nd. It seems pretty advanced with lots of diagramming. Should I start him with R&S english 2 or 3? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Diagramming starts in R & S 3, so if your ds has a fairly strong grasp of grammar, I'd say start him in R & S 3. I would not do 4 yet - it is very rigorous.

We've LOVED R & S, and we do 2/3 of it on marker board or orally, finishing it on notebook paper. It's a great program that is academically sound and God honoring.

Hi!
I used Saxon for my ds in K, 1, and 2. I don't believe that they have English...so I assume that you're talking about phonics which is what we did. Saxon has them code words, but this is not the same thing as diagramming sentences.
We used R&S 2 this year as my ds hadn't had a lot of English previously. (We'd done Abeka's language book for 2nd grade in addition to Saxon phonics.) Anyway, that was a great fit this year! I think you'd be best to start with R&S 2. I'm guessing that his school doesn't do much with English until 3rd grade if they're doing Saxon for phonics and math. At least this was the case with the school my son was at in K and 1st.
