Bible Study - together or apart?

Post by homeforhim » Sat May 30, 2009 4:13 pm

Hello Ladies,

I am wondering as I look ahead to September how to handle Bible study time. I will have Preparing (for my grade 3) which has a study of the Psalms to be done with your child while my older child will have CTC to do independently for Bible. My dilemma is that Bible time is one thing I have always done with both children to start our day and love this. It is often my favorite part of our day! I am really just about to dive into using the real Bible as we have been using a Bible story book all this time (except for memorizing scripture) - first those little ones for the early years, through Egermeier's twice and now almost finished Vos' (which is excellent I must say - my favorite thus far and very biblically accurate). My older son who is now 10 has done Bible reading in the "real" bible on his own here and there such as Revelation, Acts and some of a gospel or two.

I was just looking forward to diving into the actual Bible with both of them now and would hate to miss it with one of them. On the other hand, I know my older will be grade 5 and it is likely time he developed the habit of reading the Bible for himself regularly. I am looking for wisdom from you wise ladies on how you would approach this year with these two HOD guides.

Blessings,
Rachael

Rachael,

I think that I'd read the Bible with both of your kids together, if that's your heart's desire. But, I'd keep the Bible that's in the HOD guides seperate for them. Our family has family devotions of some kind together...but then we also do the Bible in HOD and love it! This works wonderfully for us! :D

Rachel,

We as a family meet and have our family devotions together in the morning. We all enjoy that, and the kids will always have their own things to do but it is a good and nice way to keep the family grounded together. Some of the interaction is great and they push each ohter for deeper thinking and they support each other too. Each one of the kids do their own separate Bible in school, and they all have their own devotional book that they also follow themselves which they do first thing in the mornings and that they do on their own. Really you can never have too much of Jesus. :D

Thank you to both of you for your responses! It helps so much to see what other families have done. I am going to follow a similar idea I think with doing the first part of Bible together and then having them do their individual studies at another point in the day. Thanks again!
