Hello,
I am beginning to prepare to gather all the items needed to begin Bigger over the summer. I see that it calls for a Timeline...I would prefer not to have the simple make shift one, yet the ones I see for purchase are quite extensive...I'm wondering if anyone has discovered one that can be purchased that works nicely for the program. Also, just wanted some tips on what everyone uses. Do you use multiple notebooks? 1 for Science, 1 for dictation, and so forth, I can't really imagine how much writing we will be doing. Also, I need a card box..yes? Lastly, anyone have any lapbooking tips for Bigger.
Can't wait to begin!

Ruth,
Welcome to the HOD Board! I'll just move this post over to the Main Board, so more moms will see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board.
Blessings,
Carrie

Ruth,
We are doing bigger this year and I can tell you what we did. For the timeline: I trimmed the tab off of two file folders (we used green). I then taped them together on their trimmed side with colored tape. If you can visualize it, when opened up completely, this double folding folder has four inside faces. I made a simple template on the computer that has two columns, each with fifteen lines for equally spaced down the sides for writting. On the top line, we wrote the year (1450, 1500,1550,1600,1650,1700,1750,or 1800)
The best looking thing we did for organizationally purposes was to use one cheap flexible binder from a dollar store to put our Science and History pages. We put a divider in the middle and filled the binder with those plastic sleeves. When the kids finish a notebooking assignment, we slip it into the plastic sleeve. It looks beautiful and the boys love looking through the many fantastic drawing of this year.
We did use a card file, but if I had it to do again, I would have used one of those flexible two ring index card binders. They are small and the cards could already be in there waiting to go. And, for alphabetizing practice, they can arrange the words in order.
We didn't do the right side of the plans. Have fun!

I did the makeshift one, however over the summer we are going to transfer all of it. I have a timeline book I got from Sonlight. It was pretty inexpensive. Then we are using timeline figures from Homeschool In The Woods. We'll draw the little Bigger pics by each person and date it...but have a picture of the person to color as well. We might not have pics for everyone, but that's okay.

Hi Ruth! Welcome to the HOD Board!
We did the timeline in the file folder, and my ds was so proud. Here is a picture of him with his timeline on this thread:
